I find that you people are very reluctant to update the naval website. The current update is designed by a person who has no power to differentiate between a frigate and a tug boat, the way the fleet statistics have been arrayed. Any half decent reference book on the navy will always start with the fighting ships and work their way down to the auxilliaries and then support vessels. Your website very curiously lists the ship types alphabetically.....something I have never seen in ANY reference book on the navy.

No: 2 Transport Company Logistics (Irish) Attached Indian Brigade. Camp Shannon Baidoa.

I had the pleasure of serving with this Brigade in Somalia 1994. I was a member of No. 2 Irish Transport Company attached to 66 Indian Brigade.
Indian troops and Airmen afforded us every hospitably and warmth for which I will always remember and be eternally grateful.

Why, am I writing this now, you might ask. Well for all Irishmen the date 22 Aug has a particular significance. On the 22 Aug 1922 our Nations first Chief of Staff General Michael Collins was assassinated in an ambush on a lonely road in a place called Béal na mBláth, Near Bandon, West Cork. This was the Statesman, Soldier, and Intelligence Officer that brought the British Empire in Ireland to its knees.

However I have another reason, I would like to extend my thanks and pay tribute to the seven brave Indian soldiers killed in ambush by Somali militiamen on the 22 Aug 1994 returning to Burr Hakaba after escorting an Irish Convoy to Baledogle – Mogadishu. Please let it be known that we Irish will never forget and we are eternally grateful.
