October 8th, 2001: The Indian air force bid adieu to the Hawker Hunter after nearly 44 years of Service. The Hawker Hunter was officially phased out today at the Air Force Station Palam, with the last example making its flight during the AF Day celebrations.

The last example, a T.66 trainer version serialled S-571 belonged to the Target Tug Flight. It is believed to be an ex Dutch aircraft that was inducted into the airforce post 1965. More than 220 examples of the Hunter flew with the IAF and many pilots nostalgically remember the aircraft for its grace and beauty in handling.

The RAF Air Attache was also on present during the celebrations witnessing the flypast.
