MiG-23BN [SM219] is the only known warbird with the Sainik School in Kapurthala.  It was unveiled for display in December 2008.

Sainik School Kapurthala is one of 24 Sainik Schools across India. The school was inaugurated in July 1961 with the objective of preparing boys for entry into National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla. It is situated in the Kapurthala city of Punjab state, in Jagatjit palace which was formerly the palace of the Maharajah of princely state of Kapurthala, HRH Maharajah Jagatjit Singh Bahadur.

In 2008, the Indian Air Force donated a Mig-23BN [SM219] aircraft to the school for display and general awareness about the aircraft. It was unveiled in a ceremony on December 6th, 2008. Air Vice Marshal Anil Chopra, a former student of the school was the chief guest.

During the event, AVM Chopra recalled his old days in the school and said many boys from this school were serving the Army, Navy and Air Force in high positions. School Principal Colonel A.K. Tyagi thanked the Air Marshal for dedicating the phased- out MIG 23 to the school. DC J.M. Balamurugan was also present.;

The aircraft is displayed alongside a Vijayanta Tank and an AA Gun turret from one of the Indian Naval ships. Each relic representing one of the three forces.
