Meet the warbird that claims to be the southernmost in India - in the town of Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu. MiG-22UM came all the way from Romania - and served with MOFTU.

Nagercoil is the 11th largest city in the southernmost Indian state of Tamil Nadu and a municipality and administrative headquarters of Kanyakumari District. The town is situated close to the tip of the Indian peninsula, locked with the Western Ghats on all sides and is the southernmost town on the Indian mainland.

The town has one retired military aircraft on display – thus making it the southern most warbird in the country. This aircraft is a MiG-21 UM two seat  trainer, bearing the tail number U-455. This particular MiG is believed to have been a ‘re-import’ from Romania in the late 1990s, and was last seen flying with MOFTU

This warbird is located at Nagercoil town park , known as the CV Raman Park (located at approximately  8°10’55″N 77°25’57″E).  The park is located close to the State Bus Station on state highway 194 in the Ozhuginaserry area.

The aircraft was installed on a platform across the road from the Nalla Perumal Jewellers building on the State Highway.
